In the Night Garden Activity Table

Review: Georgie and Lydia are both In the Night Garden fans; although Georgie is getting a bit old for it they both still enjoy watching the show – and Lydia absolutely adores Upsy Daisy! We were offered this activity table to try out, and even though Lydia is at the top end of the age range for this type of toy, she has been having a great time testing it out – and so has her big sis!

The activity table comes well packed with cardboard & plastic bags protecting each section of the table. It was really easy to put together; the legs simply click into place on the underside. These can be removed fairly easily for easy storage, too. It requires 3 AA batteries, which are not included – these slot into place into a screwed shut compartment underneath the top part of the table.

You get the three main In the Night Garden characters with this table; Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy, and Makka Pakka. You also get the bridge, carousel, and Makka Pakka’s cave. A squeaky hammer is the final touch, and a particular favourite of the girls.

The top part of the table can be stored inside the table itself, which clips shut, and the three characters slot into the legs – two of the legs have character slots, so that you can have one on each side of the table, making it easy to put them away, whichever side of the table you are standing in.

Both Georgie and Lydia have had a great time playing all the games on this table, which use the light up “stepping stone” buttons. There are five different games, and also a music mode that plays each character’s tune, along with their sound effects. The games can be played with either the hammer or your hand, and the table guides you through each one verbally. They include counting, shapes, colours, and are perfect for toddlers who are learning to recognise these.

The carousel can be wound back and then plays the In the Night Garden theme tune as it rotates back around, and has a place to put one of the characters. The bridge has three places to stand characters, and you can tuck Makka Pakka away into his cave to have a nap. If you flip the page on the book, it plays a short story.

For younger babies and toddlers, you can use the top of the activity table separately on the floor, and then when they start cruising about they can hold the side of the table as it is nice & stable. With the top of the table stored inside, you can also use it for a nice toddler sized table – Lydia has had fun eating snacks and doing some colouring on top of it.

The girls have really loved playing with this table, and it is a great fun, with plenty of features, but I have to admit the price is a little higher than I would probably pay. 4 stars for this fantastically fun activity table.
