Review: Georgie and Lydia both really enjoy construction toys, and we have multiple sets of different types. They also love Peppa Pig – so this range of products from Character Online is the perfect combination of the two.
Grandpa’s Pig Boat Set is a build-able model of Grandpa Pig’s boat, which features multiple times on the TV series – and I think it is a really accurate representation of the cartoon version. Georgie and Lydia recognised what it was immediately, and both of them enjoyed building the set to create the boat, easily following the instruction sheet. They’ve taken it apart to rebuild it a few times, and it is sturdy enough to stay together most of the time.
This set has over 30 pieces to put together, in bright blue & yellow colours, plus a sheet of stickers to decorate the boat. We had a lot of fun deciding where to put the fishes and starfish, along with adding details like the ship’s wheel and portholes. There are two white blocks which you can add stickers too – Lydia and I chose to make one of these Polly Parrot, with a different picture of the parrot each side, and the other has a bell on one side and a rubber ring on the other.
The blocks slot together nicely and securely – easy enough for Lydia to do on her own. I definitely think these are better quality than some similar toys on the market, and as good as the well known market leader. Size wise, they are a different height as the popular brick, but otherwise compatible – our boat has had a few animal guests from Lydia’s farm set, and you could easily build on top of the boat if you wanted to.
With freewheeling wheels on the underside of the boat, it is really easy to push around the floor so you can play with it once built. Lydia has been enjoying imaginative play with this aspect of it, and Grandpa Pig is forever sailing from once place to another.
Grandpa Pig is able to slot into place both in the standing and sitting position, and Lydia loves walking him around his boat and sitting him down in front of the wheel. As well as his legs bending, you can move each arm independently, and also twist his head.
We give this set 5 stars. In fact, Lydia loves it so much that she will be getting the slide set and the swing set for her birthday in a few weeks!
